Fraternity recruitment (rush) is an opportunity for male Virginia Tech students to take a close look at our fraternity chapter and to ask questions regarding fraternity life. It is an informal process of meeting and getting acquainted with members of our chapter. The Rho Alpha chapter of Phi Gamma Delta encourages all men possibly interested in fraternities to visit/explore/research as many different fraternity chapters as possible… we want you to find the best fit for you, even if it doesn’t end up being with FIJI! There are great comparative research resources located at the Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) office’s website.

Generally speaking, Virginia Tech fraternities that are a part of the Interfraternity Council (IFC) officially recruit twice a year, once in spring and once in fall. The process takes about two weeks. During this time, we host several activities and events as meet-n-greets which we use to get to know our potential candidates, as well as offer them a chance to learn all about FIJI. These rush events are tons of fun, and include everything from poker tournaments, pickup sports games, trips to the shooting range, and some good old fashioned BBQs.

Beginning in 2024, all Phi Gamma Delta chapters have eliminated the traditional 4-8 week pledging period, and now men who accept bids from the Rho Alpha Chapter can expect to be initiated as fully-vested Brothers within four (4) calendar days of bid acceptance!

Newly initiated Brothers (NIBs) will be onboarded into the chapter using the Fraternity’s Foundations of Courage curriculum and process, which has replaced the traditional pledging program. The rest of a Brother’s career closely follows the Fraternity’s Built to Lead framework.
